2009 SUMMER DANCE CAMPS


Presidio Dance Theatre is now accepting online registration into its exciting and very fun--summer dance education camp program for ages 2-15. The camps are offered on a weekly basis from June 15 through July 30. Please check our website for specific information here. We are pleased to welcome back summer staff favorites, Miss Laura Moir and Mr. Arthur Zhigalov, who will lead the arts & crafts portion of the summer program. Joining our ballet faculty, an array of International dance specialists will present national dances and cultural traditions. We have been offering our camp since 2004! Judy Bretschneider won the Jefferson Award in 2006 for Public Service

Judy Bretscheider received the 2006 Jefferson Award from the American Institute for Public Service, presented by Sam Beard of Washington DC for her volunteer work with PPAF. The Jefferson Award is considered the Nobel Prize for Community Service, initiated by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. After extensive travel in Russia, Germany, France, and the United States, studying highly regarded performing arts programs, Judy co-founded the PPAF in 1998. She has designed the award-winning DANCE OUT! program, matching University of San Francisco performing arts and social justice students with professional artists, working together at underserved schools to teach and preserve cultural authenticity in dance productions.

Presidio Dance Theatre International Tour To Russia - Summer Tour

Presidio Dance Theatre was invited by the Russian Federation, Ministry of Culture to perform in the famed White Nights Festival, 300th Anniversary of Tsarskoye Selo in June 2008. The company was hosted by the Royal School of Imperial Ballet and performed at the Palaces of the Tsars and the Pushkin International Festival, where 22,000 Russians attended the festivities!
Excursions included the Mariinsky Theatre, home of the Kirov Ballet; Vaganova School and Museum, Hermitage Museum, Pavlovsk Palace, Peterhof Palace; and Catherine Palace, where the group enjoyed a sumptuous garden party Welcome to Russia!. The Ministry of Culture provided English-speaking educational tour guides and sponsored all entrances for dancers and accompanying parents. It was the trip of a lifetime! Presidio Dance Theatre Welcomes International Artist AVTANDIL KURASHVILI


As a former member of the Georgian National Ballet Sukhishvili, Avtandil, was recognized as one of the company's most talented and creative solo dancers, whose innovations were elaborated in his marvelous artistic solos. He has performed all over the world and in almost every state of the USA! Before moving to San Francisco, Avtandil held the position of choreographer for the Georgian State Children's Ensemble, Lashqari. We are very happy to have him join us on the stage this season and also create a Georgian Dance workshop for the community. We look forward to collaborating with Avtandil!

Robert & Jacqueline de Warren, Spring Season Resident Choreographers

Artistic Director Sherene Melania is pleased to welcome internationally renowned choreographer, Robert de Warren and his wife, Jacqueline, who assists him in his work. Mr. de Warren will create new pieces for our DANCING ACROSS CULTURES™ Repertoire. The couple will arrive in April, and be PPAF's Guests of Honor, at the annual spring benefit at the St. Francis Yacht Club on April 30th. They will attend our Spring premiere performances at the SF War Memorial Opera House on May 4th and Palace of Fine Arts on May 22.
